Chicago

Last weekend I went with my hostparents and some other Exchange Students to Chicago. Chicago is amazing! Ok it was the first big city I've ever been to but whatever.
We first went to the Millenium Park and then I visited with two other girls the Art Institute of Chicago. After that we took a bus to the Navy Pier and as it started to rain we headed back to meet with the others of our group at the Willis Tower. It was very foggy so we didn't went up. Instead we went to the Hardrock Cafe (where I bought some shirts) and ate something at a restaurant.
On Sunday was big shopping-day at the Gurnee Mills. I went with a Swiss Girl and we bought quite a few things.
So that was kinda all about my trip to Chicago. Here a few pics of the city and the shopping tour afterwards

I'm back again

HEY GUYS!!

I know I didn't post anything for quite a bit time but so much is going on (and I just don't feel like writing after all those stuff I have to do for school).
I think my English became pretty well over the last few weeks. Sometimes I first feel like "Oh no an English person! what's the best way to say what I want to explain?!" but then I realize I don't have to think about it actually. I just have to start talking and I will say everything just as I want to. It's so awesome I don't even have to think about talking English you just talk. And it's English! Without meaning to!! Awesome
I probably spent (again) way too much money this month but shopping here is amazing and way better than in Germany! It's so much cheeper and you have in every mall a Hollister, Abercrombie&Fitch, Victoria Secret and Levi's store. And the sports clothes stores are just soo much better than in Germany!!
As you can see I really like shopping here. All the food is still kinda funny for me but it's ok.
I really love the football games especially those from our school (next Saturday is M&M game!! *-*)
And I love it here. I feel like I get more friends every day. I feel really comfortable here and I hope the rest of my year is going to be so awesome like my first two months.

The first school day

Hey you people!

Today was my first school day and I have to say even the classes itself are (probably) a lot more easier than in Germany, school is a lot more exhausting and strict in USA. You have no break till lunch except for the 5 minutes between the different classes (and you spend them running to your locker and then to the next class. IF you are able open the locker...).
And you have to do homework every single day...

But I think I will like school here. I like the people here. The teachers are very nice and the students are also nice, open and interested in getting to know me. I think I will have a LOT fun with them!
Haha OMG today the Orientation Meeting at the beginning.... It was awesome!

I'm excited about gym class tomorrow. I think we are about 7 girls and 27 guys (or something like that I'm not sure). And of course about all my other classes. I have a lot of Junior or Senoir classes (Chemistry, Psychology) and Algebra 2 and gym class are also half Junior half Sophomores. But I have no clue who is in my grade and who not (I'm so bad at telling how old smd is... AND remembering names).

Yeah I think that's all for now... I think it's for the best if I go to bed soon. Tomorrow is going to be a loong day. And the day after that, too :D

Football

Hey guys!

Bevor school starts I went to a few Football games from my High School. We have three different games: the Freshmen games, the V.J. games (the guys from my grade) and the varsity games (these are the actual Football games. Usually the most players are Junior or Senior).
Of course we won all three games last Thursday and Friday!

My hostdad explained me the rules a week ago when we watched the Packers game and I think I understood the most things. Somestimes I was kinda confused but then I asked one of the girls and boys (and I was told that I understand the rules even better than most of the girls here!).

SO... I really like Football (I think it's more interesting than soccer but it's hard to compare. And of course it's always more fun if you actually know the people who are playing and when you watch the game with your friends) and I thinks it's gonna be a great school year! Two more days...

School starts soon

Hey guys!
I just came back from school (picking my classes, getting my locker, introducing myself etc).
So I will probably have English II, Chemistry I, Algebra II, US History, PE II, US Government, Sociology, Working with Children and... Student Leadership (what means i`ll be in the Student Council).
Next Monday I will get my Schedule,
Wednesday is an Orientation Meeting and Thursday is Picture Day!

One of the great things being an Exchange Student is that I get all the nice teacher.
And everybody else is nice to me too :)

My First Week

A lot of things happend this last week.
There was the Waterfront Festival where I met some people from my future High School, on Monday I painted my room, yesterday I went to the Kmarkt for some shopping (they have a lot of interesting stuff there...), I met some kids from here,yeah and lots of other stuff...
And of course I took many pictures ;)

Because I don't  have the time to write everyday a whole sory about all the things that happened, I decided just to post some pictures and let you know what I'm doing.

Sorry but I don't want to write more (I know I'm very lazy...) but I have a app so that I can post via cell phone some stuff :))

Zoo and Iron Mine

I just came back from our tour today. We went to the Iron Mine in Iron Mountain. It was very cold in there but also very interesting (Yes, I could understand something. Not all but quite much!). After the guided tour I bought some souveniers and I took something like a Iron-Stone (I don't know exactly what it is - it looks like a normal stone) with me from there. Maybe I will send it to my family by mail or I will keep it for myself. For lunch we went to a restaurant (I forgot the name already...) and bought some American sweets afterwards.

Maybe I will go to the Waterfront Festival with a girl from here later. The festival goes on till sunday, tomorrow there will be a firework and on sunday a parade.
Next week I will paint my room (in white and pink) and I hope I'll get to know some other kids from Menominee High School!

Welcome in the United States - My first day

Yesterday I finally landed in America.
My first impression?
Everyting is bigger, fast food stores are everywhere, people are very friendly and there are lots of meat and fried stuff to eat. I'm going to be so fat next year...
My hostfamily is very nice. Today they took me to a soccer match of my little nephew Ty and showed me Menominee and Marinette. And all by car! Apparently american people drive a lot. And everybody has a big Chevrolet ;)

Right now I'm very tired. No wonder - in Germany it's about 3 AM! Tomorrow we will go to a zoo with Jack and next weekend there's the waterfront Festival with a parade, firework and so on.
My school year starts in the end of August so I'll have time to improve my English a little bit. I'm so excited what school in USA is going to be like!

Everything is great here but I already miss my family and my friends! Fortunately we have Facebook and Skype. If anybody wants to Skype with me just ask me! I'll miss you all <3

Visum

Hi! :)

Heute ist mein Visum mit der Post gekommen!
Am Donnerstag war ich im Konsulat in München für das Visumsinterview. Zuerst hatte ich ein bisschen Schiss, dass die da alle nur englisch reden und ich dann nur die Hälfte verstehe. Aber im Konsulat waren dann alle sau nett und die meisten haben auch Deutsch gesprochen.
Bevor man das Gelände betreten darf, wird erst kontrolliert, was man alles dabei hat (alle elektronischen Geräte, Getränke, große Taschen, spitze Gegenstände usw,... darf man nicht mit hinein mitnehmen) und ob man überhaupt einen Termin beim Konsulat hat. Dann dürfen immer zwei Leute in das Kontrollhaus vor dem eigentlichen Gebäude und werden durchsucht. Wenn alles passt muss man sich in einer Warteschlange anstellen, an dem die benötigten Papiere kontrolliert werden. Dann muss man Warten und sich danach wieder in einer Schlange anstellen, wo dann Fingerabrücke genommen werden. Anschließend heißt es wieder Warten bis man aufgerufen wird, an einen der Schalter zu kommen. Dort wird man befragt (das war der einzige Angestellte, der Englisch gesprochen hat), zB. warum man in die USA will oder wo man da wohnen wird, in welche Jahrgangsstufe man geht und was man nach dem Auslandsjahr machen wird. Dann ist man auch schon fertig und kann wieder nach draußen gehen.
Das hat alles auch nur ca. ne halbe Stunde gedauert und die meiste Zeit davon musste man eh nur warten. :)
Also das war alles ziemlich einfach und ich bin jetzt auf jeden Fall bereit für die USA!

Jetzt sind es nur noch knapp 38 Tage, bis zu meinem Abflug!! Ich hab zwar noch immer keine genauen Angaben zu meinem Flug (außer dem, was mir mein Gastdad erzählt hat), aber die werden hoffentlich die nächsten paar Tage noch per Post kommen ;))

Flugtermin!!

HEY!

Seit Donnerstag weiß ich jetzt, wann ich fliegen werde. Die Flugdaten wurden mir zwar immer noch nicht von EF zugeschickt (ist alles also noch nicht 100% sicher), aber laut meinem Gastdad fliege ich am 30. Juli um 7:20 in München los (das heißt um halb 4 aufstehen), über London nach Chicago und lande da um 00:40 deutscher Zeit ( in Menominee ist es da 6:40 PM). Dann erwartet mich noch eine lange Autofahrt und bin dann so um halb 3 - 3 (deutscher Zeit) endlich in meinem neuen Zuhause!
Das wird ein sehr langer Tag für mich... Aber ich freu mich schon :)
Ich fliege gerne, aber trotzdem hoffe ich, dass ich nicht alleine fliegen muss, sondern dass ab London noch andere EF-Austauschschüler mit mir mitfliegen.

Das Bild wurde über der Green Bay aufgenommen und zeigt links Wisconsin und rechts Michigan (Menominee). Meine Gastfamilie wohnt da irgendwo auf der Halbinsel. Ich hoffe mal, dass man da im Sommer auch schwimmen gehen kann :)

Noch 57 Tage...

Hallo :))
es wird mal wieder Zeit für einen Post immerhin hab ich jetzt schon lang nichts mehr gepostet. Aber bei mir ist zur Zeit echt viel los.

SO.. ab heute sind es noch genau 57 tage... OMG!!!
Das sind morgen genau 8 Wochen! Ich kann es immer noch nicht ganz glauben. Die Zeit seit meiner Bewerbung ist so schnell vergangen und in nicht mal mehr 2 Monate geht's für mich in die USA! Ich freu mich schon voll, meine Gastfamilie kennen zu lernen und auch die anderen EF-Schüler, die (hoffentlich) mit mir gemeinsam rüber fliegen werden.
Ich hab zwar noch immer kein Visum und muss jetzt geduldig auf die Unterlagen von EF dafür warten. Für das Visum muss ich dann verschiedene Formulare im Internet ausfüllen( manche Fragen sollen angeblich echt sinnlos sein..) und dann nach München aufs Konsulat fahren. Einige andere Austauschschüler von unserer Facebook-Gruppe haben das Visum schon und so schwer ist das gar nicht, wie wir uns alle vorgestellt haben. Wenn ich Glück hab, reden die sogar alle Deutsch aufm Konsulat
Seit Ostern ist ziemlich viel passiert. Ich war auf dem Vorbereitungstreffen, hab nun Kontakt mit meinem IEC (meinem Betreuer von EF in den USA), hab sogar schon angefangen zu überlegen, was ich dann alles mitnehme, welche Gastgeschenke ich noch besorgen muss, was ich wegen Handy und Geld (hab jetzt dann bald eine eigene Kreditkarte *-*) mache, usw... Es gibt da echt viel zu erledigen und ich bin noch lange nicht fertig!

Nur noch wenige Wochen und dann muss ich meine Familie und Freunde hinter mir lassen und mir neue Suchen :O
Ne Scherz, es gibt ja immer noch Facebook und Skype, aber trotzdem werde ich sie alle total vermissen! Ich glaub, das werden ziemlich viele Postkarten und Souvenirs... Aber das mach ich ja gerne ;)


Übrigens: Sobald ich dann in den USA bin, werde ich natürlich auch in meinem Blog nur noch auf Englisch schreiben (zumindest die ersten paar Monate) :)

Die erste E-Mail

Hallo Leute,

also gestern Abend hab ich eine lange Mail von meinem Gastdad bekommen. Er ist total nett und ich bin echt froh, dass sie mich als ihre Austauschschülerin gewählt haben.
Ich hab 4 Gastgeschwister und 7 Neffen und Nichten, auf die ich mich schon total freue :)
Mein Gastdad organisiert auch eine Willkommensparty für mich, auf die er paar Leute aus meiner zukünftigen High School einläd :) Ich kanns kaum erwarten & freu mich schon soo!!
Ich hab ihnen heute zurückgeschrieben. Mal schauen, was ich sonst noch alles die nächsten paar Tage erfahre :)

Menominee, Michigan

Heyy :)

Gestern rief EF an und bekam endlich meine Gastfamilie. Ich werde nächstes Jahr also in Menominee, Michigan wohnen. Das liegt an der Grenze zu Wisconsin auf einer Art Halbinsel zwischen einem See und einem Fluss, ca 4 1/2 Stunden von Chicago entfernt. 
Ich hab meiner Gastfamilie gleich eine Email geschickt und warte jetzt auf eine Antwort. Meine Gasteltern scheinen ziemlich nett und engagiert und haben angeblich einen Sohn.
Auf der Homepage meiner High School steht, dass man einen Führerschein machen kann. Das wäre natürlich ziemlich geil :)) Den Rest kann ich nicht wirklich verstehen aber ich hoffe mal, dass sie verschiedene Sportarten anbieten. Ich würde gerne mal sowas wie Cheerleading ausprobieren :D
In ein paar Wochen ist auch noch das Orientation Meeting mit EF bei dem ich hoffentlich noch mehr erfahre. Mein genaues Abflugsdatum werde ich jedoch wahrscheinlich erst 1-2 Wochen vorher erfahren.

Der Countdown läuft...

Hab jetzt am rechten Rand einen Countdown bis ich endlich nach USA fliege. Leider weiß ich noch nicht genau wann, weil das von meiner Gastfamilie abhängt :(
Aber am 1. August fangen in Bayern die Ferien an und ich hoffe, dass mein Hinflug Anfang August ist. Wir werden sehen...

Heyy Leute!!
Alles fing damit an, dass ich letzten Sommer in einer Zeitschrift eine Anzeige, bei der es um einen Schüleraustausch den USA ging, las. Da ich schon immer mal bei so etwas teilnehmen wollte, setzte ich mich an den Laptop und googelte was das so kostet und wie das inetwa ablief. Noch am selben Tag schickte ich 3 Kurzbewerbungen los und ein paar Tage später bekam ich schon die ersten Antworten und Broschüren. Schließlich entschloss ich mich für die Organsation EF und war auch gleich im August bei einer Art Kennenlerntreffen/Auswahlgespräch.
Nach Zahlreichen Formularen und Gesprächen mit meiner Schule später war endlich alles geklärt.
Ich werde ab nächsten Sommer für ein Jahr in den USA leben und eine High School besuchen!!

Leider weiß ich bis jetzt noch nichts über meine Gastfamilie und meinen Wohnort. Am liebsten würde ich natürlich nach New York oder Miami kommen aber das geht laut EF nicht. Trotzdem wird es sicher ein großartiges Jahr werden, egal wo ich wohnen werde. Ich bin schon gespannt, wie der Schulalltag auf einer High School so abläuft und ob es wirklich wie in den ganzen High School-Filmen Nerds, Cheerleader, Footballer, Skater und so weiter gibt... Auf Facebook gibt es auch schon eine Gruppe mit allen die nächstes Jahr auch bei diesem Austauschprogramm mitmachen. Dort besprechen wir sämtliche Themen rund um unser Jahr in den USA und ich habe Leute aus der ganzen Welt kennen gelernt. Am liebsten würde ich gleich losfahren :))
Bis es endlich los geht müssen noch sämtliche Sachen durchgelesen und geplant werden. Und ich muss noch EINIGES lernen. Ich werde nämlich wenn ich zurück bin gleich weiter in die nächst höhere Klasse gehen und das heißt ein ganzes Schuljahr nachlernen. Auch meine Abschiedsparty muss noch geplant und so viel Geld wie möglich verdient werden, denn nicht nur Shopping-Touren in den USA sondern auch sogenannten Discovery Tours stehen 13/14 auf dem Plan. Was das genau ist, erkläre ich beim nächsten Mal.
Das wars dann fürs erste. Hoffe hat euch gefallen ist nämlich mein erster Blog. Würde mich über Posts und Kommentare freuen :)) Bis zum nächsten Mal  franzi
